9. During transit, the body generally and the bitten limb, in particular, should be moved as little as possible, to minimise the spread of venom.

Super Falcons defeat South Africa to with 2018 AWCON

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have won their ninth AWCON title following a 4-3 win over South Africa after penalties in a tension soaked match.

There were no goals during regulation time as both teams matched each other strength for strength all through 120 minutes. Asisat Oshoala missed an 83rd minute penalty but that did not stop the Nigerian team from being victorious as goalkeeper Tochukwu saved the last kick taken by South Africa.

Onome Ebi missed the first spot-kick but South Africa also threw away their second penalty to bring the Super Falcons even in the match. Francisca Ordega was given the man-of-the-match while Thembi Kgatlana won the most valuable player award.

Cameroon won the Fair Play award as they join Nigeria and South Africa to next year's FIFA's Women's World Cup in France.

A team of Nigerian doctors successfully separated a pair of conjoined twins at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada.
The operation which took several hours was carried out by a medical team led by Nuhu Kwajafa of the Global Peace Initiatives, announced the joyful news via his Instagram account @nuhukwaj on Tuesday.
He wrote:

LASU Senior Lecturers Fired for Sexual Assault

The Lagos State University, LASU, on Tuesday confirmed the dismissal of three of its academic staff for sexual harassment and misconduct.

The university’s spokesman, Mr. Ademola Adekoya, said the institution’s Governing Council took the decision at its 119th Statutory Meeting on Oct 4, as recommended by the Joint Council/Senate (Academic) Disciplinary Committee.

Adekoya named the affected staff as Dr Sunkanmi Odubunmi, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Dr Ajani Ogunwande, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry.

EFCC arraigns serial fraudster for defrauding army general N180m

EFCC, on October 8, 2018 arraigned one Mohammed Sanni Zubair, before Justice Ijeoma L. Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on a 4-count charge of fraud.
Zubair, a suspected serial fraudster, was alleged to be a member of a syndicate, who specialized in defrauding people.
The long arm of the law caught Zubair when the children of one Major General Geoffrey Ejiga (retd) petitioned the EFCC alleging that a syndicate of fraudsters took advantage of their father's old age to defraud him of over N180million.
A check on Zubair's profile showed that he had previously been arrested by the operatives of the EFCC sometime in 2016 for a fraud related offence, which he confessed to, saying he acted under the instruction of one Johnson Abiodun, whose real name was Nuhu Kasim.
In the course of investigation, Kasim was arrested in Kano, and it was discovered that the information given by the defendant against him, was completely false. Hence, this charge.
One of the counts reads: "That you, Mohammed Sanni Zubair on or about October 2016, in Abuja, within the Abuja Judicial Division of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, did make a statement to Naziru Aminu Shehu, an officer of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, in the course of the exercise of the duties of his office, contained in your written statement dated 28th October, 2016, which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 39 (2) (a) and (b) of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (Establishment) Act, 2004".

Poland pick Nigerian Oil over Russian.. November delivery

Polish oil refiner PKN Orlen expects to receive a first ever shipment of Nigerian crude oil next month, its CEO said, as Poland seeks to reduce its reliance on Russian supplies.

State-run PKN Orlen, Poland’s biggest refiner, and smaller rival Lotos, which it is taking over, rely mostly on Russian oil delivered via pipelines built in the 1960s but both have increased purchases from other sources.

“Nigeria is our new source of supplies we are exploring. Currently, a batch of 130,000 tonnes of Nigerian oil is on its way to Poland. It is expected to arrive at Naftoport (in Gdansk) in mid-October,” PKN’s Chief Executive Daniel Obajtek told Reuters in an interview last week.

“If tests confirm the assumed yields structure and margins, further oil supplies from Nigeria will be a viable option,” he said.

PKN Orlen signed a long-term agreement on regular oil supplies with Saudi Aramco in 2016 and since then both PKN and Lotos have also purchased oil from Iran and the United States.

Oil supplies from Russia account for around 70 percent of all oil deliveries to PKN, down from around 90 percent in 2015.

“There are also tankers sailing to us from other new directions, but at this stage it is too early to talk about it. We are holding discussions on medium- and long-term oil supply contracts with a number of parties, including US partners,” Obajtek also said.

Obajtek said that the deteriorating quality of Russian Urals crude was also prompting PKN to diversify its supplies.

“Generally, the lower quality may impact contract prices, as it affects our yields,” Obajtek said but declined to comment on whether PKN is negotiating new contract prices.

PKN Orlen is taking over Lotos as part of a plan announced in February to improve its negotiating position in oil purchases and to increase investment capacity.

Obajtek said that he hoped to obtain clearance from the European Commission by mid-2019.

“We are in the pre-notification phase and we are preparing to submit a merger clearance application, with some guidance already in place. We intend to file a draft application by the end of the year, which will formally trigger the process of negotiations with the European Commission,” Obajtek said.

Nigerian Parents Arrested In US After Son Died During fasting and prayer

A Nigerian couple has been arrested in the US for allegedly allowing their teenage son to starve to death and his brother to become severely emaciated during a religious fast.

Wisconsin prosecutors charged Kehinde Omosebi, 49, and Titilayo Omosebi, 48, with child neglect causing death and child neglect causing great bodily harm. Both charges are felonies and carry a combined maximum sentence of 37 years in prison .

Years of experience is just a number - out of the applicants, the applicant with 1 year experience was better exposed, sound and suitable because he had worked with companies that had exposed him to several scenarios than entities that just pay you salaries for warming the chairs. I can tell if you are speaking based on book knowledge or experience and exposure.

Do not be that boring boyfriend but always strive to ensure that you are fun to be with. Make her laugh when you are together and do the things that put a smile on her face. If you do this, she will be longing to spend time with you and she will be the one to look for you.

Ignore her calls

When she texts, do not haste to reply or answer her call. This, however, should not be a habit as it can be annoying and you can end up losing her since she will feel that you are no longer interested. Rather, just take some time to respond to her text messages so that she feels the vast of not having you around.

So often, we assume breast cancer is exclusively a women’s disease, says Dr. Kristen Fernandez, medical director of the breast center at the MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center in Maryland.

“Men think they don’t have breast tissue, but they do,” she explains to MensHealth.com.

Guys have less breast tissue than women do, so their risk of developing breast cancer is comparatively more rare. In fact, guys make up less than one percent of breast cancer cases.

But the risk of a man developing breast cancer still exists, and Fernandez says many men often ignore the symptoms.

While guys don’t necessarily need to perform regular self breast exams, Fernandez strongly believes that guys should occasionally check for pain or lumps in their breast tissue. And if you do experience pain, “don’t ignore it” and see a doctor right away, she says.

A female police officer who breastfed a malnourished baby in Argentina has been hailed a hero for her selfless act.

Celeste Ayala, an Argentine police officer, was on duty at the Sister Maria Ludovica Children’s Hospital, in Buenos Aires, when she heard a baby crying intensely. She made enquiries and was told the child's mother was not able to fully provide care for the child who looked malnourished, "smelly and dirty."

Man wrongly imprisoned for 25 years gets $10million as compensation

A Philadelphian man who was jailed for 25 years for a rape and murder he didn’t commit will be paid $10million as compensation.

In 1991, Anthony Wright was sentenced to life in prison in the USA for the killing of his neighbor, Louise Talley, 77. Louise was raped and repeatedly stabbed to death at her home and Anthony was indicted in the murder.

But the conviction was reversed in 2014 after DNA evidence pointed to a former crack addict who died in a South Carolina prison.

 Wright filed a federal lawsuit accusing police of writing a false confession and coercing him to sign it without reading it, and planting other evidence used to convict him. A statement from Wright said he will never get over the years spent in prison or missing time with his mother and growing son, but he was relieved he could get on with his life.

A nude paint that is the largest produced by Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani sold for $157.2 million in New York on Monday night, becoming the fourth most expensive work of art sold at auction. 
Painted a century ago, Modigliani’s masterpiece “Nu couche (sur le cote gauche)” fetched the highest price in Sotheby’s history and was the star single lot in the May art auction season in New York. 

Modigliani follows Leonardo da Vinci and Pablo Picasso as the third highest-selling artist at auction. Monday’s sale failed to eclipse the $170.4 million paid for another Modigliani nude at Christie’s in 2015. Nearly 58 inches (147 centimeters) wide, the picture was the cover star of a recent retrospective at the Tate Modern gallery in London.

Following the uploading of call-up letters for the 2018 Batch A orientation course on the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Portal, a comprehensive list of essential things prospective corps members must take to camp have been highlighted here by our reporter.

Among the items are some life saving TIPS.

TYPES OF THERAPEUTIC GROUPS

Group therapy is a popular mode of therapy for both therapists and clients. Group therapy is a highly effective form of psychotherapy that is based on interdependence and interaction among the group members who mutually disclose personal material (Laski & Riva, 2006). While group therapy is sometimes used alone, it is also commonly integrated into a comprehensive treatment plan that may also include individual psychotherapy. Some of the common therapeutic groups that may be used either on their own or in conjunction with other forms of treatment include:

Self help groups

These groups are organised and led by clients or ex-clients who have learned ways of overcoming or adjusting to their difficulties. The group members benefit from such experience, while also benefiting from the opportunity to talk about their own problems, express their feelings and provide mutual support. Two examples of self-help groups include; self-help groups for alcohol dependence or self-help groups for parents with handicapped children, etc.

Medication groups

These groups have been used for the treatment of, for example, recurrent depression and bipolar disorder. The emphasis is on compliance with prescribed medication. The goals include increasing the client’s knowledge about their medication, increasing compliance, educating about the disorder, decreasing their isolation and helping them to express their feelings in a nonjudgmental environment.

Interpersonal group therapy

This approach was developed from the work of Yalom (1985; Yalon & Leszcz, 2005). Treatment is focused on the problems of current relationships and examines the ways in which these problems are reflected in the group. The past is discussed only to make sense of the present problems. The treatment is divided into three stages.

First stage: In this stage it is typical of group members to try and depend on the therapist, seeking expert advice about their problems and about the way they should behave in the group. In this first stage some members may leave the group due to anxiety or the perception that group therapy may not be useful to their problems.

Second stage: The remaining members begin to know each other better. They discuss their problems and try to seek answers to their problems. During this period maximum change can be expected. The therapist encourages members to examine current problems and relationships.

Third Stage: The group in this stage can become dominated by the residual problems of the members who have made the least progress and show most dependency. These residual problems are discussed before ending the group.

Encounter groups

In encounter groups the interaction between members is made more intense and rapid in the hope that this will lead to greater change. The encounter can be intensified through entirely verbal means, like using challenging language, or it can include appropriate forms of touching or hugging between the participants. Sometimes the experience is further intensified by prolonging the group session for a whole day or even longer. Care needs to be taken in deciding the suitability of clients for this type of group therapy approach.

Psychodrama

In psychodrama, the group enacts events from the life of members in scenes reflecting either current relationships or those of the family in which the person grew up. This approach can provoke strong feelings in the person represented through the dramatic enactment. The drama is followed by discussion. The drama can also focus on problems that all participants share, for example, how to deal with authority.
