Movies Must Watch Before The End Of May 2017

Movie lovers spent the most of April and better part of May enjoying the Fast paced action of The Fate of the Furious which made it gross an easy $1 billion so far.

This romantic drama follows Maddy (Amandla Stenberg), a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who is unable to leave the protection of the hermetically-sealed environment within her house because of an illness which becomes challenging when she falls in love with the boy next door. The movie is an adaptation based on the eponymous 2015 young-adult novel by Nicola Yoon and is sure to elicit tears and deep feelings.

Young Lady Commits Suicide In Ajuwon, Lagos By Drinking Sniper (Photo)

Tragedy struck in the Ajuwon area of Lagos State on Wednesday May 17, at Bada Hospital at Bale road, when a young lady said to be in her late 20’s committed suicide by drinking sniper insecticide.
The lady, identified as Patience Akpan, was said to have left her father’s place that Wednesday afternoon before she was seen in another street within the area wringing in pains, with the sniper bottle still in her hands.

Her dad is said to be a driver who works with a bank on Ajuwon/Akute road.

According to an eye witness, on the day of her suicide, Patience was seen on Oni Street around Ajuwon, on the floor and in pains before she was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

She had lived in the area with her parents about 12 years ago but when her parents separated, she left with her mum, only to come back that Tuesday and committed suicide the next day.

Ashok and the aggrieved woman were in a relationship before breaking it off early last year after which his patents set him up with another woman and they got engaged.

When the ex-lover heard he was getting married, she pleaded with him repeatedly not to go through with it and even tried to get his parents to call it off, according to police.  A police official involved in the investigation told said: 'The armed men took Ashok at gunpoint and threatened him to accompany them.

'After bundling him on the rear seat of a car, they sped away.' Police located him 24hrs after he was abducted.  A complaint is yet to be filed. 

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte Has Banned Smoking In Public

As part of his war against drug dealings in the country, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has signed an executive order imposing a nationwide smoking ban in public places.

The executive order which was signed by the President on Tuesday was announced by the Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on Thursday.

'There shall be no opening that will allow air to escape from the designated smoking areas to the smoke-free area of the building or conveyance, except for a single door equipped with an automatic door closer.'

'The designated smoking area shall not be located within 10 metres from entrances, exits or any place where people pass or congregate or in front of air intake ducts.' the order said.

The order includes playgrounds, sporting areas, sidewalks, schools, workplaces, government offices, restaurants and carries a maximum penalty of four months in jail and a fine of 5,000 pesos ($100) if anyone is caught violating the order.

However, Duterte was a heavy smoker but had to quit when he was diagnosed with Buerger's disease, which can cause blockages in the blood vessels.

According to Reuters, the ban is one of the region’s strictest anti-tobacco laws which is expected to impact on an estimated 17 million Filipino smokers.

A student of Business administration at Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Damilola Adegoke has reportedly committed suicide by drinking an insecticide, Sniper.

Details as to why she took her own life are still sketchy but it was gathered that on Tuesday, her mum came back home to find her daughter lying on the floor with a sniper.

Friends of the deceased have expressed shock over her sudden death on facebook.

One wrote; "No matter the circumstances, worries, troubles, disaster never look down on your self and always pray hard. It's a pity this tight friend of mine Damilola Adegoke took snipper yesterday and gave up the ghost after uploading her pics on fb. May her soul rest in peace".

Another friend, Damilola Ayanwanle said; "No amount of problem worth taking your own life , she was hardworking and highly dedicated but only her knows her personal pains and challenges, maybe she shared and you and I couldnt help her out ........ in fact nothing justify eating a poison, well farewell Damilola Adegoke we will remember you forever".

Little girl hanged outside home by her dad because she tore her parents' divorce papers

An 8-year-old girl was hung outside her home and beaten by her own father after she tore up her parents' divorce papers. The child is said to have been unhappy that her parents got a divorce so she threw a tantrum, tore her parents' divorce documents, damaged furniture and broke a bottle of alcohol. At this, the dad punished her by beating her, after which he tied her up outside.

The dad took a video of him punishing the child and sent it to the girl’s mother to spite her.

Upon receiving the video, the girl’s mum took the clip to the cops, and the police rescued the girl and took her to hospital. The child has since had a check-up. Police revealed that her physical injuries were not so serious but she is receiving psychological counselling to help her recover from the trauma.

Local authorities in Guangyuan City’s Jiange County, in south-western China Sichuan Province, have since arrested the dad. The mum is expected to be given custody of the girl while investigations continue into the dad’s actions, which could see him charged with child abuse and jailed for over a year on top of having his parental rights revoked.

School Forces Female Students To Remove UnderWears Over Exam Malpractice

An Indian student said Monday she was made to remove her bra in public by school authorities over exam cheating fears, minutes before sitting a crucial test.

Authorities issue strict dress codes to tackle widespread cheating on the entrance test for India’s prestigious medical colleges.

But there is no mention of bras on this year’s prohibited articles list which includes dark clothes, long sleeves, brooches, badges, closed shoes and socks.

The student, who has not been identified, told media she was at the test centre in Kerala state on Sunday when a metal detector started to beep during a security check.

“At that time, they told that without removing my innerwear I cannot enter the exam hall since they (bra hooks) are made of metal. So, I took off my bra there itself and gave it to my mom, she was waiting outside,” the student told NDTV news network.

The girl was quoted in The Times of India as saying that she lost all her “confidence and composure when I was asked to remove it in front of everybody”.

According to Captain Jack, the father of the triplets decided to have one more child in addition to his two children, not knowing what the future had in store for him....He was rather blessed with the three children.

Customs Officer commits suicide in Abuja

A 44 year old Assistant Superintendent of Customs simply identified as Christian, allegedly committed suicide in Lungu Village, Gwarinpa, Abuja. According to reports, Christian was found dead dangling from a rope in his one room apartment. He reportedly locked himself in the home and killed himself. His reason for committing suicide is yet unknown.


Confirming the incident, the Gwarinpa Divisional Police Officer, CSP Nuruddeen Sabo, said the deceased who was unmarried, was staying with his brother and was said to have been recently transferred to Lagos before the incident happened.

According to Sabo, preliminary investigations showed the deceased was suffering from depression. “Exhibits recovered include some drugs and knife"he said

Femi Kuti sets new world record for the longest single note on a Saxophone

Last night, Sunday May 7, 2017, Nigerian music legend, Femi Kuti set a new world record at the New Afrikan Shrine. Femi Kuti broke the world record for the longest single note on a saxophone note with a stunning 46minutes and 38seconds.

The previous record was set at 45minutes and 37seconds in 1997 by Kenny G.

The record breaking performance was witnessed by a large audience that included Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, the deputy high commissioners of Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
