Pretty HIV patient shares her joy at having lived longer than she expected

A brave 21-year-old woman living with HIV shared the story of how she discovered she was HIV positive at 14 and thought she had very little time left. Now she is about turning 22 and is still living a full life.

Saidy Brown who refers to herself as an HIV victor, refusing to live as a victim, has been hailed by most Twitter users as brave for coming out with her story to encourage others. See screenshot of her tweet below...

Chinise men import over N5 billion worth of substandard tyres in nigeria arrested

Two Chinese, Tanlong Shen and Xu Jing Yao, have been arrested by the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, for importing substandard tyres believed to be worth over N5billion.

This was made known by the SON Director General, Osita Aboloma, as he led journalists on a tour of the warehouse in Satellite Town, Lagos, where two million imported substandard tyres were seen.

The Chinese reportedly import the tyres into the country through means that compromise their quality, thereby churning out weak, substandard tyres which endanger the lives of people.

Not only were the tyres of poor quality, their manufacturing dates were also post-dated to make them appear new and road worthy. It was revealed that the Chinese distributed fake tyres under different brand names like; Grandsonte, City Tour, Duraturn, Aptany, Powertrac, City Grand, Bearway and more.

China hotel catches fire killing 10 people

State-run Xinhua news agency is reporting that at least 10 people died when a four-story hotel in Nanchang, southeastern China went up in flames early this morning. Firefighters found seven bodies in the blaze debris.
Three of the 16 people hospitalized died despite receiving medical attention following the fire, the news agency said.
The hotel is adjacent to a 24-story apartment building where more than 260 residents have been evacuated. Seven people are in police custody while investigations into the cause of the fire continue.

20 killed in suicide attacks at Homs security building

More than 20 people were killed when suicide attackers targeted a security building in the central Syrian city of Homs.
The governor of Homs Province, Talal Barzani, said there were three blasts, killing more than 20 people, and wounding many others.
The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group reported at least 14 people were killed.
Homs is Syria's third-largest city and largely in the control of the government.

171 Nigerians deported from libya

Barely a week after no fewer than 162 Nigerians were brought back by the Federal Government from Libya, another batch of 171 Nigerians were Tuesday deported.

They were brought into the country through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos.

They landed at the cargo section of the airport at about 4p.m.

Breakdown of persons flown back include 109 female adults, two female children and one infant. Males were 49 adults, five children and five infants.

The video shows the lifeless body of the girl lying on the floor with blood stains all over the place while the alleged killer sits and ponders on what he has done. A nine-year-old Sierra Leonean girl suffered serious beating in the hands of her guardian last week after she allegedly stole 12,000 SLL (N500).
According to Sierra Loaded, the girl is presently hospitalized at the Kambia Government Hospital while the perpetrator has been arrested by the police.

Whistle-blower exposes suspicious N8.4b in an unclaimed bank account

Detectives at EFCC and the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, are trying to find the owner of an account which has N8.4billion in it. The bank account has no signatories but a huge deposit made into the account has been traced to a bank which is believed to have assisted the money launderers, who own the account, to convert the cash to dollars.
They think the cash may have been wired into some foreign accounts, but the government has filed an ex parte motion to place it under temporary assets forfeiture.

Despite the fact that the account has no signatories, a telecommunications company has gone to court to claim the money.

This account was discovered when a whistle-blower alerted the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, to strange deposits that were being made into the ECOBANK account by some suspected government officials.

At a time Nigeria is going through a daunting economic recession, it was revealed that we plan on spending the sum of N250 million to build a gatehouse for the Vice President of Nigeria.
Whenever I think of the budgetary provision of N250 million to build a gatehouse for the vice president, I am moved by the inequities and inequalities of Nigeria.

There is no urgency or importance in building a new gatehouse for the vice president’s already over priced house, but if even we need to build such a house can we not build it with less than 10% of the cost?
At the black market rate (which is the most commonly used rate in Nigeria) N250 million is equivalent to $500,000. At the official rate, it is worth almost a million dollars. With that type of cash you can buy a mansion in Washington DC and a well developed property in London. Isn’t it a pity that all it can buy the Nigerian government is a gatehouse?
